Welcome to the first day of The Winter Blues Blog Hop. I’m excited about this hop because it’s all about the blues. My favorite color next to black. Thank you Carla at Creatin’ in the Sticks for putting together this blog hop. I can’t wait to see all the blue creativity.

When this hop was announced I knew right away what fabric I was going to use. Edyta Sitar’s Something Blue. The perfect pattern to go with it was Winter Trio also by Edyta Sitar.

As I started to put it together, I began to vary a little from the directions. I’m not much for raw edge applique unless the pieces have been laser cut. I also like some texture added. So as I began to put the top together I started to change things.

I turned the edges under and hand sewn the pieces down with Valdani and Gentle Arts thread using the button hole stitch.

Instead of the appliqued berries I used some old blue buttons that I had in my vintage button stash.

A couple were dirty but I just left them like that. Adds charm I think.

This was the first time I have machine quilted with my new Bernina using the stitch regulator. It’s supposed to help have even stitches. Well, let me tell you, I still have uneven stitches. Ha! That’s okay though cause I’m not the best at coming up with the right quilting designs anyway. I do love it. I think it turned out so pretty. The machine quilting will get better eventually I’m sure.

  1. That is just beautiful! I like the changes you made, and have you looked at any berries lately? They all need washing. LOL This is just gorgeous.

Such a pretty project, I love my stitch regulator, it’s the one thing that keeps me out of doing quilting in the hoop as it really improved my FMQ, but I do admit it took some time also to really get it down. I do like the fact that I haven’t broken a needle yet by using it over just plain FMQ… LOL Good to see you!!

    1. Thank you! Good to see you too. Hope things have been going well. Yeah, the demos make the stitch regulator look so easy. I have some quilts that need quilting. Maybe I will get some good practice. 🙂

  9. This is so pretty! I love your quilting, I can’t tell that the stitches are uneven at all 🙂 The applique is so pretty and the buttons are just perfect for it.

  23. love your interpretation of this pattern. I didn’t have much luck using that wonderful quilting foot. They tell me I need to practice, but I don’t want to put in the time. I’m sure you will master it in no time.

  35. I love the techniques you used on this beautiful wall hanging and how much dimension it has. It really is lovely! As for the stitch regulator, I’m not the best with it either but I keep trying. Thanks for sharing!

  36. Hi Michelle! So glad you started off the hop with all of this gorgeous applique. WOW! It looks beautiful. And, I am interested in your comment about the stitch regulator. I didn’t know it was possible to override it – that may not be the correct term, and I really only have a vague idea of their purpose. I often wondered if that would ‘help’ me with more even quilting. Because I can be uneven with the best of them!! HAHA! I enjoyed your post very much, especially the addition of the buttons and their charm. ~smile~ Roseanne

    1. Thank you so much. You are so sweet. I’m not sure why my stitches were uneven. It may have something to do with how the fabric is moved. Not sure but I hope to eventually get it figured out.

  40. It’s beautiful! Your applique is lovely and your quilting looks great! (I quilt with a stitch regulator too and my stitches are not perfectly even either–you are not alone. The regulator helps but is not perfect, by any means.)
